The DLP advocates for the increased protection of our native flora and fauna, by the controlled relocation of specimens and individuals as is already carried out to some extent already.
However, when developers are given the ‘green light’ for land clearance of native bush land, then we should allow for the safe removal and relocation of not just the animal varieties, but also of the plant varieties. It is currently illegal for the removal of native ferns and orchids from these cleared areas and many are becoming endangered or extinct as a result, which could easily be rectified by authorised persons being allowed to relocate them to ensure their viability.
