The Democratic Labor Party (DLP) of Australia is beginning a new phase in our long and proud history of service to the people of Australia.
The original and deep concerns that led to the formation of our Party came from real threats to our liberty and democracy. Today’s issues are of a different nature, but they are just as significant. They concern the protection of life itself. They concern the fundamental value and safe haven of our families; and, once again, the importance of workers and the contribution they make to the building up of this great nation and our place in the region and the world.
For the first time in a generation, the DLP now has active and growing branches in every mainland state and an active, representative Federal Executive.
I am proud to introduce to you Mr. Tony Zegenhagen, our Federal Secretary. Tony is a long serving, passionate and hard-working member of the DLP and is a focal point for all federal activities. Tony hails from Queensland – he has a big job ahead of him.
In these early days there is already a great sense of solidarity amongst our Federal and State executives and I am looking forward to working with all States throughout my term of office.
Moving the Party forward we remain focused upon giving voice and representation to families and workers throughout this country; to speak on behalf of and defend the lives of the unborn and the elderly.
My promise to our Federal conference is to:
Ensure the unity and cohesion of all members of our party;
Develop our vision for families, workers and life;
Provide focus to the key issues affecting our society;
Foster action within the political sphere while remaining faithful to our core principles.
Our founding members placed integrity above all else and we can do no less than uphold this ideal as we continue to seek the support of Australians for a truly representative and innovative government.
