PARENTAL LEAVE SCHEME WRONG

“This PPL scheme is discriminatory and a bureaucratic disaster”– DLP Senate team leader for Queensland, Tony Zegenhagen

The Queensland leader of the DLP Senate team, Tony Zegenhagen, warns that small businesses will have to deal with increased paper work and costs if the Government’s controversial and discriminatory Paid Parental Leave (PPL) legislation is passed.

“The PPL Scheme will discriminate against all families who do not outsource child care," said Tony Zegenhaen. “It will also create a $200 million headache for small business proprietors as they grapple with the paperwork and the new bureaucracy that comes with it.”

“Small businesses will have to wade through 236 pages of complex legislation which is estimated to add $200 million in extra administration costs to businesses.”

“If passed in its current form this bill will put downward pressure on the already low birth rate of the nation, and will also have a negative effect on businesses looking to employ young women. The DLP agrees with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) which is currently concerned at the enormous amount of red tape that accompanies this legislation” .

Tony Zegenhagen said: “This PPL scheme is discriminatory and a bureaucratic disaster. I call on all members of parliament to reject this bill and force the government to include all families in any benefit relating to child care.”
