The Democratic Labor Party’s (DLP) Lead Senate Candidate is calling for enquiry into the possibility of splitting Queensland into two states (Queensland & North Queensland) with a possibility of third State (Central Queensland) as our Constitution originally allowed for.
Tony Zegenhagen said today, the necessity for this enquiry has been brought about by:
The failed unicameral system of government in Queensland, that has been plagued with corruption (and accusations of corruption) and the concentration of power and decision making bureaucrats located in the South East.
This power concentration has led to the forced amalgamations of Councils into Regional Super Councils (against the will of the people), placing a financial burden on Queenslanders for many years to come, while reducing much needed services.
It has also threatened rail infrastructure (vital to many in these regions) and has failed to provide adequate facilities including, public transport, suburban rail services and much needed roads, highways, health and education facilities.
Tony Zegenhagen said today, that the urgency for this call has been brought about by the government’s refusal to accept the logical solution for the re-establishment of an Upper House with proportional representation in five separate regions.
If this government WILL NOT listen to the people, then they have every right to establish their own State that WILL. The Constitution certainly supports this.
