"Moral Culture Even More Important than Lots of Police "

DLP member for Western Victoria, Peter Kavanagh, argued in Parliament, that while increasing police numbers is probably necessary, we would be better off as a society if respect for others was retained in our culture.  Mr Kavanagh argued that the Equal Opportunity Bill,  for example. which is presently before Parliament, detracts from that objective by seeking to restrict the freedom of churches.

Kavanagh also argues that, "eliminating protection for some people, weakens protection for all people". Mr Kavanagh said that the decision by the parliament to eliminate protection for the unborn in 2008, "was not unrelated to the apparent surge of violence that we are witnessing on our streets".
