DLP CALLS FOR A FAIR GO FOR PENSIONERS

26 April 2010

“Stressing out pensioners for the sake of a few dollars is just plain stupid “ – DLP Senate Candidate Dr Noel Jackson PhD

Queensland DLP Senate team member Noel Jackson has called on the Federal Government to give pensioners a fair go by adjusting the definition of income for the purposes of pension entitlements.

“Stressing out pensioners for the sake of a few dollars is just plain stupid,” said Noel Jackson. “It should be a simple matter to exclude from the income test the modest amounts that pensions might receive from power companies for feeding electricity back into the grid.”

“A flood of governmental propaganda has encouraged many pensioners and people approaching pensionable age to make an investment in solar energy. I don’t recall any accompanying statement by Government cautioning that the income from that investment could undermine pension entitlements.”

“The DLP’s pro-pensioner stance on this issue is consistent with our commitment to remove all means testing from disability pensions,” Dr Jackson concluded.
