“The Resource Rent Tax proposal is a major threat to Queensland jobs and to Queensland’s prosperity” – DLP Senate Team Leader Tony Zegenhagen
Queensland DLP Senate team leader Tony Zegenhagen calls on all Queenslanders to join with the DLP in fighting the Henry proposal for a Resource Rent Tax on the mining industry.
Mr Zegenhagen warns: “The Resource Rent Tax proposal is a major threat to Queensland jobs and Queensland’s prosperity.”
“Queensland’s hard working miners, and their counterparts in rail and road transport and a host of mining-related industries, deserve more and better opportunities instead of facing the sharp and permanent contraction which a Resource Rent Tax must cause.”
According to Tony Zegenhagen, a Resource Rent Tax will have grave and unpredictable effects on investment decisions. “It will impede severely all forms of capital raising for exploration and mining, throw out of work thousands of Queenslanders and permanently depress the wages of those able to remain in the industry. Every Queensland family will suffer from a Rent Resource Tax.”
Tony Zegenhagen wants the Queensland Government to stand firm against this latest Canberra-based assault. “Let’s have bipartisan support for a declaration by the Queensland Parliament that Queensland will never accept a Resource Rent Tax."
In conclusion, Mr Zegenhagen warned of an additional problem for miners, the cost increases which will inevitably flow from the intended privatisation of Queensland Rail.
