"Aidan McLindon and Rob Messenger want to return control to the voters" – DLP Senate Team Leader Tony Zegenhagen
5 May 2010
DLP State Secretary and Queensland’s DLP Senate team leader Tony Zegenhagen has welcomed the decision of Aidan McLindon MP (Beaudesert) and Rob Messenger MP (Burnett) to quit the LNP and sit in the Legislative Assembly as Independents.
“I congratulate both Aidan and Rob,” said Tony Zegenhagen. “It’s great to see MPs with the courage and fortitude to make a stand on such a vital issue as the selloff of Queensland’s crucial assets. Such a stand could not have been taken by members of a party with a history of similar vandalism.”
“It is clear that Rob Messenger and Aidan McLindon want to return control to the voters. This is the realisation of the hopes of the great majority of Queenslanders who do not want to see QRail, ports, tollways and forests sold. At last the majority of Queenslanders have gained two additional genuine representatives in the Queensland Parliament."
“There is now a great opportunity for ALP members to show that principle, self-respect and loyalty to the public are more important than remaining part of a disreputable government. Any ALP member who joins the growing ranks of independents will earn the respect and gratitude of thinking Queenslanders.”
