WALK 4 West Papua, Geelong to Footscray
West Papuans living in Victoria and their supporters will walk from Geelong to Footscray to highlight the ongoing human rights abuses experienced by indigenous West Papuans under Indonesian occupation since 1963 and to raise awareness of, and build support for, the campaign for a free West Papua.
The distance of 73 kilometres from Geelong to Melbourne was chosen to signify the distance between Australian territory (Deliverance Island) and West Papua – our closest neighbour, close by geographical measure but shrouded in media censorship.
